'I enjoy the immediacy of paint to paper using oil paint like watercolour. Some of the works on paper are brief sketches but many of them are just as detailed as those on canvas and also use impasto on a smaller scale. I often use a type of paper that has a silk weave which is just visible through the wash of paint. At the moment I'm starting a series of very large scale works on paper which will be a dramatic new direction in this medium.'
