Paintings

The animal paintings have been an ongoing theme of Sarah's work since her first solo show in the Riverrun gallery in Dublin in 1991, the year that Sarah moved to the Beara peninsula and was first inspired to paint sheep after witnessing fair day in Kenmare, Co Kerry. She was drawn into the textures and colours of the sheep and spent months trying to find a way to paint the thick wool finally settling on her impasto technique using very thick paint levered onto the canvas with palette knives, a technique she has carried through her work ever since even into the boxing series.
